Ingredients

  • 1 pie crust for single-crust pie
  • 1 cup sugar, divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled cooking apples
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel, optional (probably skip)
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice, optional (probably skip)

Directions

  1. Parbake the pie crust. Allow to cool (?).
  2. Combine sugar (1/2 cup) and cinnamon. Toss apples in cinnamon sugar mixture. Place in parbaked pie crust.
  3. Prepare topping by combining sugar (1/2 cup) and flour. Cut in butter. Sprinkle mixture over top of pie.
  4. Cover edge of pie with foil. Bake at 400 for 30 minutes. Remove foil; bake for 30 more minutes, or until topping is golden.

I made this pie for Thanksgiving 2019. It turned out excellent! However, the topping needed about double the original amount of butter that it called for (1/2 cup instead of 1/4 cup). I have updated the recipe accordingly.
